Oct282016: TWIDI Victorian Era

“I’ve been stalking your WIDI tag and just wondered, do you ever feel tied down since you’ve set it in the Victorian Era and therefore somethings cannot exist (I’m not sure if that made sense like Grimsley couldn’t have a ferrari) or do you twist things so it’s *Your* Victorian Era with “historically inaccurate” details?”

That’s what an AU is for *insert sparkles here*

But to be serious, no, I don’t. Other than the spec fiction elements, TWiDI tries to be as historically accurate as possible. And if not, well, at least historically logical. When I chose to set it mainly in the Victorian Era, it’s out of my own love and interest in the era itself, so I don’t feel any desire or temptation to force the future into the past, since there is no narrative reason why I should, and I like the era just the way it is. After all, the Victorian Era is hilarious and weird and gross enough to be entertaining without forcing an iPhone into it. Telegram (or the Night’s own postal system of pigeons, rats and ravens) is sufficient.
TL;DR I keep historical twisting to a minimum because the story is not about that.

Also, TWiDI will not remain in the Victoria Era forever. Time moves forward, and sooner or later, you’ll see the cast live-updating GBBO in a Whatsapp group.

Fun fact: Grimsley won’t drive a Ferrari. In fact he won’t drive any car at all. Barring the narrative fact that he is a Jersey Devil and cannot expose himself to the human world, he has little interest in being involved in technological advancements. So no phones, no TVs, no whatever. He’s basically a curmudgeonly uncle.
