“I love your art so much ! I’ve had a Tumblr for quite a long time but I’ve never posted my art on it since my audience was small so It would be amazing if you had any tips to gain more followers has an artist on here and how to get noticed on such a huge platform ?”

Thanks so much for supporting my art! To tell you the truth, there’s absolutely no surefire tip on gaining followers. I used to think building an audience on a platform must have its special tricks that all the popular artists are not telling me, but the reality is that…..you draw and you post and one day a piece of your art becomes noticed for reasons beyond your comprehension (”it’s just a drawing of a furry what the heck” is definitely a thought I had before), and then you just accept it.

After a while if you’re lucky you notice a pattern. Certain aspects of your art seem to be more popular than the rest. You’ve to hope those aspects are something natural and already appealing to you. For me, people like my pet portraits, character designs, and the witchy whimsical aesthetic. Those things I already draw anyway, so it was just narrowing the focus. Yes, maybe it sounds like I am pandering, but that’s what marketing is. At least I am peddling a brand that is all me.

Obviously though, attention won’t come until you put yourself out there. Post your art, even if your audience is small. I have had this Tumblr for 8 years (oh dear god) and it’s only the last 2 or 3 years that I reached my milestone of 10k followers and then 20k. But you shouldn’t focus so much on an audience, except an audience of yourself. Getting a following is not all as it seems….a true following of several hundred is better than the validity of thousands. You’ll understand when you get there.
